What is Free spins?
Free spins are a bonus round in slot machines where a set number of spins play out without deducting from the player's balance. They are typically triggered by Scatter symbols and often include enhanced features such as multipliers, additional Wilds, or retriggers when new Scatters land during the bonus round itself.
How free spins are triggered
The standard trigger requires a minimum number of Scatter symbols - often 3 - to appear on the reels during a paid spin. The game then awards a defined number of extra spins played automatically. Some games allow players to purchase the bonus directly (see Bonus Buy).
Features during the round
Free spins follow the base game rules but frequently add extra elements: sticky Wilds, progressive multipliers, expanded reels, or premium symbols. These characteristics vary by game and are always described in the paytable.
Retriggering and spin counts
If new Scatters land during the free spins round, most games award additional spins up to a defined maximum. The total number of spins played can therefore significantly exceed the initial number granted at the start of the round.
